These are all questions I get asked – a lot

Motivation – so what is it?

Well the dictionary definition says, ‘a reason or reasons for acting or behaving in a particular way.’

What defines motivation?

The state or condition of being motivated or having a strong reason to act or accomplish something.

Where does it come from?

Motivation reflects something unique about each one of us and allows us to gain valued outcomes like improved performance, enhanced well-being, personal growth, or a sense of purpose. Motivation is a pathway to change our way of thinking, feeling, and behaving.

How do you make it?

Well that comes from within you, from defining why you get up in the morning, why you do what it is you do, how it makes you feel and how you want to feel – your why.

How do you keep it?

Your why needs to be strong, it needs to be the thing that gets you out of bed in the mornings, the thing that drives you forward, the thing that gets you through the rough, the thing that makes the bad days’ worth it. Motivation can be generated, if you like, by focusing on your goals – the reasons why you do things. If you have a strong enough why then the motivation to do things is stronger.

  • You need to invest time in your mind
  • Write out your why, look at it every day, visualise it
  • Stay focussed on your why
  • Make everything you do about your why

If you don’t know why or what lights you up inside, then you will struggle with staying motivated.

Don’t let other people’s opinions of you become your reality!
